PKR Founder-member Quits Party With 63 Others And Pledge Support For BN
PORT DICKSON, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- A founder-member of Pakatan Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and 63 members announced their decision to quit PKR Thursday night and pledged their support for Barisan Nasional (BN).
Abdul Manap Shahardin said he and the members had decided to quit PKR because its leader was only a good orator but failed to implement what they had struggled for.
"I do not want to talk bad about the leader but it is a reality," he told a brief gathering attended by Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Utama Dr Rais Yatim.
Abdul Manap, 64, said colleagues who were instrumental in setting up the party were also disappointed because they struggles, sacrifices and contributions were not appreciated.
After retiring from the army after serving at the Sunggala camp, Abdul Manap who had stood as a PKR candidate for the Telok Kemang parliamentary seat during the 2004 general election, said he and the other members would support Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad who is contesting the Bagan Pinang state seat in the Oct 11 by-election.
He added that Isa was a influential candidate who was well accepted by the people of Bagan Pinang and his credentials and contributions as the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar for 22 years remains intact although PKR had won the Telok Kemang parliamentary seat during the 2008 general election.
Meanwhile, Rais said BN accepts the former PKR man's stand which goes on to prove that BN's selfless contributions all these years has been recognised.
"I knew him from the time we were in Parti Melayu Semangat 46 and I know his struggles," he said.
Rais also welcomed the support pledged by Indian PKR members and promised to do his bit to see that they enjoyed the Deepavali celebrations on Oct 17.
The minister added that Abdul Manap and the rest would coax more PKR members in Telok Kemang to support BN during the by-election.

WASIAT RAJA MELAYU: PERINGATAN UNTUK BUKAN MELAYU
Rakyat diingatkan 7 wasiat Raja-raja Melayu
06/08/2009 5:03pm
2. Kami isytiharkan dan kami simpan untuk kamu dan kami benarkan kamu isytihar dan simpan untuk anak cucu kamu, selain gunung-ganang, tasik dan hutan simpan, TANAH SIMPANAN MELAYU sehingga nisbah 50 peratus, selebihnya kamu rebutlah bersama-sama kaum lain;
4. Kami kekalkan dan kami jamin Kerajaan dan Kedaulatan RAJA-RAJA MELAYU memerintah negara ini;
5. Kami isytiharkan ISLAM adalah Agama Persekutuan;

Muhyiddin Yassin Selar Anwar
Anwar pengkhianat
pengarang@utusan.com.my

SINGAPORE: A Singaporean child prodigy scored another success after he became the youngest to pass the ‘O’ level Physics, making him the world’s first binary scientific child prodigy.
|
Nine-year-old Ainan Celeste Cawley, although known for being a chemistry prodigy and presently studying chemistry in college, has exceptionally proven himself in a subject other than his main interest.
Despite never attending a single formal physics class, Ainan, of Irish-Malay parentage — whose grandmother Sabariah Abdul Wahab, 52, hails from Parit Yani, Johor, Malaysia — has just become a child prodigy in two science disciplines.
Ainan’s father, Valentine Cawley, told Bernama that it was great that his son was broadening his grasp of the other sciences while deepening his understanding of chemistry.
“All the sciences have something to say to each other, and Ainan is becoming conversant in all of them, over time,” he said.
Prodigies almost always specialise in one subject and they usually have one highly-developed skill but no other.
But it is remarkably unusual that Ainan should be developing other areas of strength while still developing his core interest in chemistry.
Ainan took the Physics ‘O’ level with the London Edexcel board in January this year, at the British Council here, at the age of nine years and one month.
This makes him the youngest on record to pass the Physics ‘O’ level.
Cawley said, he taught Ainan Physics informally at home over the past few months and no school was involved in his instruction.
This was how he passed Chemistry ‘O’ level, also with London Edexcel over two years ago, too, when he was seven years and one month old, he added.
He was entered into the Singapore Book of Records as the youngest person ever to pass an ‘O’ level then.
Ainan then joined Singapore Polytechnic to do a degree level Chemistry at the age of eight.
Cawley has daily updates on his gifted son, ‘The Boy Who Knew Too Much: A Child Prodigy’ at www.scientific-child-prodigy.blogspot.com. — Bernama

TOKOH MAAL HIJRAH 2008 SOKONG KERAJAAN PERPADUAN
‘Perpecahan Melayu teruk’
pengarang@utusan.com.my

The Muslim Next Door
Germany's Muslims are often cut off from society. But a new school for imams aims to change that.
The gulf between Europe's 16 million Muslims and the secular societies in which they live all too often breeds misunderstanding, resentment and even violence. And while there's plenty of blame to go around, one reason for many Muslims' difficulty integrating in the European Union countries is that their clerics are usually imported from Turkey or the Arab world, and have such poor language skills and weak knowledge of their host country that they struggle to help their fellow community members adapt and fit in.
But this month, an experimental new school for imams opened in an outlying eastern district of Berlin that may help provide a model for the nurturing of a distinctly European strand of Islam. The daunting mission of this new school, and a growing handful of similar initiatives in Europe, is to cater to the needs of Muslims in Europe while negotiating between the cultures of Islam and the West. The 29 students enrolled this year, all of them born or raised in Europe (and all of them men), will take Arabic language and Muslim theology classes along with German and civics. Their study will combine the principles of Islam with those of contemporary European culture, including, most critically, democracy and human rights.
The school, known as the Buhara Institute, is the creation of the 300 members of a Berlin mosque linked to the mystical Sufi tradition of Islam. Most of its members are Turkish and, like hundreds of thousands of their countrymen, they emigrated to Germany in the 1960s and '70s to fill labor shortages. Since then, Germany's large Turkish population has put down roots across the western part of the country, and it has recently become apparent to many of them that it is crucial to cultivate a new generation of imams that can speak German. "We want to educate imams who are anchored in these societies," says the school's director, Alexander Weiger, a Bavarian who converted to Islam. "They should be able to conduct a dialogue with the churches, the authorities and other parts of civil society."">The school is only the latest attempt to try and promote a more European brand of Islam. For years, the Cologne-based Union of Islamic Cultural Centers has trained its own imams with great success. The Muslim Academy in Berlin offers German and other classes, financed by the city of Berlin, to Muslim preachers and women. In France, the first such imam college in Western Europe was founded in 2004—and now includes women as well as men. Originally funded by the Saudi government, it now says it is privately financed. And French universities offer courses to foreign-born imams in French language, law and culture. But the Buhara Institute is unique in that it is a private initiative, created and funded by local Muslims rather than the state or a foreign government.

PAS MENANG DI KUALA TRENGGANU
Perkauman di USA: White Supremacy
U.S. Capitol Police check observation positions in advance of Tuesday's presidential inauguration.
So far, there is no known organized effort to express opposition to Obama's rise to the presidency other than a call by the National Knights of the Ku Klux Klan for its members to wear black armbands as well as fly the U.S. flag upside down on Inauguration Day and Obama's first full day in office.
As Tuesday approaches, when Obama stands outside the Capitol to take the oath of office, experts expect anger about the new president to spike. But they don't expect it to go away.
"The level of vitriol, I expect, will go up a bit more around inauguration time," said Brian Levin, director of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University-San Bernardino.
There "is concern" about white supremacist groups during the inauguration, said Joe Persichini, the assistant FBI director who is helping to oversee security during the inauguration. What might the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. have said? »
The inauguration of the nation's first minority president increases any potential threat, "particularly stemming from individuals on the extremist fringe of the white supremacist movement," said a recent intelligence assessment by the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI.
But law enforcement has the appropriate resources to respond if needed, Persichini said.
"We have seen a lot of chatter," Persichini said. "We have seen a lot of discussions. We have seen some information via the Internet. But those are discussions. We look at the vulnerabilities and whether or not the groups are taking action.
"You have freedom of speech," he added. "Anyone in this nation can have a discussion about their beliefs, but we are concerned about whether or not they take that freedom of speech and exercise some act that is against the law."
Don't Miss
Anger, violence and interest in racist ideology did increase in the hours and days after Obama was elected president in November, hate groups experts said.
Three New York men were indicted on charges of conspiracy to interfere with voting rights -- accused of targeting and attacking African-Americans in a brutal crime spree soon after Obama was declared the winner on November 4.
And interest in racist ideology was so high right after the election that computer servers for two White supremacist Web sites crashed, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks hate groups. Sambungan ...
